What Is Earthing?
Earthing, also known as Grounding, is based upon the revolutionary discovery that connecting to the Earth’s natural energy is a foundation for vibrant health. Earthing simply means to physically connect to the Earth in the form of bare skin contact by being outside (for example walking barefoot on the beach), or in bare skin contact with Earthing products indoors while you work, relax or sleep.
The human heart, brain and nervous system are electrical subsystems operating within our bioelectrical bodies. The Earth’s surface has a negative charge and when we connect to it, the Earth restores the electrical stability of our body, which allows our bodies to better self-regulate and heal.
Research indicates that regular Earthing, among other things, restores and stabilises a natural state in the electrical functioning of the body, affects many physiological processes, reduces inflammation, pain, and stress improves sleep and energy levels and aids recovery and healing.
Earthing provides our body with an abundant supply of electrons. Inflammation is caused by free radicals and free radicals are neutralised with electrons from any source. It is also thought that electrons from Earthing increase cellular energy by increasing ATP production in the mitochondria of the cells. This has a positive effect on many physiological processes, speeds up recovery and healing, and increases overall energy levels. These are important mechanisms that allow our bodies to naturally self-regulate, function optimally, recover and heal.
The Earth is a conductor of free electrons and so are all living things on the planet, including us. The body is composed mostly of water and minerals which in combination happen to be an excellent conductor of electrons from the Earth. These electrons are easily transferred to our bodies as long as there is direct skin contact with the ground. The transference of electrons from the Earth’s surface into our skin gives our body free electrons that we desperately need to neutralise the positively charged free radicals our immune system releases to fight infections, foreign materials or damaged cells. The free radicals from an immune response are great because they strip electrons from pathogens or damaged tissue which kills them. The problem arises when there are excess free radicals because they will continue attacking and oxidising healthy tissue. They are electron hungry and if we don’t have enough antioxidants or free electrons in our body to satisfy them, they will generate an autoimmune response manifesting in inflammation in our bodies. How do we know that the body absorbs negative electrons from the Earth? Anytime you have two conductive objects making contact, electrons will always flow from where they are abundant to the place where there are fewer of them.
Electrons from the Earth are a vital nutrient that our bodies need.
Throughout history, humans walked barefoot, slept on the ground and cultivated the land with their bare hands. Over time our modern lifestyle has disconnected us from the Earth’s energy through the widespread use of insulated rubber or plastic-soled shoes, sleeping on insulated mattresses and living in homes off the ground. Our homes and offices surround us with electronic devices, wireless connections, microwaves and cell towers, which assail us continuously with a positive charge. In recent decades the incidence of chronic diseases, allergies, auto¬immune conditions, and insomnia has skyrocketed in modern societies. One overlooked reason for this situation is that the immune system began functioning less efficiently as humans increasingly separated themselves from the Earth’s energy.
Earthing May Be the Missing Link to Getting Healthy
When you provide your body with a constant source of free electrons, through diet or grounding you help to radically reduce inflammation which is widely acknowledged as one of the primary factors contributing to premature ageing, pain, fatigue, poor sleep, auto-immune disorders and chronic disease.
Earthing is a simple, yet profound concept and is often the missing link in a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
How to Experience Earthing Now...?
The remedy for the disconnect is simple. Go barefoot outside for a half-hour and see what a difference it makes on your pain or stress levels. Sit, lie, stand, or walk on grass, sand, dirt, or concrete, go for a walk along the water’s edge at the beach or immerse yourself in a body of conductive water such as the sea, a mineral-rich lake or river or a mineral-rich lake. These are all conductive surfaces from which your body can draw the Earth’s energy. Wood, asphalt, and vinyl won’t work. They are not conductive surfaces. When indoors use our conductive sheets, mats and other products that transfer the energy to your body. People who Earth/Ground themselves on a regular basis say they sleep better, feel better, and have more energy during the day. Experience for yourself the healing energy of the Earth at work.
Ongoing research continues to uncover many profound benefits of Earthing and is helping to explain the exact mechanisms involved.
